Back to search results

This project will determine pathogenicity factors and mechanisms of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-induced placental and fetal injury, by studies of i) CMV dysregulation of cellular mechanisms resulting in fetal injury and death from congenital infection (Van Zuylen 2016 J Virol 90:1108), ii) utilise in vivo and an ex vivo placental model in reductionist and multicellular studies of placental dysregulation by CMV (Hamilton 2014 J Gen Virol 94:2495), and iii) provide novel therapeutic to these targets (Hamilton PLoS One 9:e97231). This work will provide novel therapeutic strategies in collaboration with international (Erlangen Germany, Limoges France) partners, including industry partners for therapeutics.
